# About High Desert Internet Services

High Desert Internet Services is a locally owned fixed wireless internet provider that opened in August 2002 and works in six Northern Nevada counties. A person answers the phone at 775-575-9593, and the first step with anyone new is a look at their address.

This page says who we are, how the service reaches a house, and what our customers write about us. It does not tell a life story. It tells you what you would want to know before you call.

## Who is High Desert Internet Services?

We are a wireless internet service provider, often shortened to WISP. The Google listing for the business gives an opening date of August 2002, and the company describes itself as having 20+ years of experience. It sells home and small business internet, plus web hosting and email for its customers.

The company calls itself Northern Nevada's High Speed Wireless Internet Service Provider and Your Rural Internet Provider. Those are its own words, and the second one explains the point of the business: it was designed to cover the areas left out by DSL and cable modem service, and it still sells mostly to rural and edge-of-town homes. It also says it has over 2k service holders.

## How does the internet get to a house?

A tower sends microwave radio to a small antenna on your home. A cable runs from that antenna to a power injector inside, and from there to your router. No phone line is needed. If you want the full picture, [what fixed wireless internet is](https://hdiss.net/guides/what-is-fixed-wireless-internet/) explains it in plain words, and [what line of sight means](https://hdiss.net/guides/what-line-of-sight-means/) explains why a tree or a hill can matter.

Because the signal travels in a straight line, we do not guess at a town. We check the address. That is why the main button on this site says Check my address: nobody can order online, and nobody is promised service until a person has looked at the path from a tower to the roof.

## Where do we work?

We work in Washoe, Lyon, Storey, Churchill and Douglas counties and in Carson City. The [service area page](https://hdiss.net/service-area/) lists the 36 places we name, from Reno and Sparks to Fernley, Fallon, Yerington, Minden and Gardnerville. Being on that list is not a promise for every street, so each place points back to the address check.

Our home base is 200 S Virginia St, Suite 760, Reno, NV 89501: the dispatch office for our trucks and crews, not a walk-in store. When a storm takes down a tower, Doug and the crew are dispatched to the mountain the way a power company's crews are, at any hour.

## What do customers say?

The business has a 4.8 star average from 36 Google reviews on its main listing (Google, read October 15, 2026). The most repeated point is that a real person picks up. One customer wrote that when there is a problem, “I just give them a call and they get it fixed right away” (Sarah). Another wrote that “Outages are few and far between” (T B.).

Many reviewers have been with us for years. One has been a customer for almost 20 years, another since the company opened for business in Fernley. You can read the reviews we chose on the [reviews page](https://hdiss.net/reviews/), and all of them on Google.

## What kind of company is it to deal with?

The plans are Bronze at $50 a month, Silver at $75 a month and Gold at $99 a month, with no contracts as the company states it. Cancelling takes two weeks notice and the equipment coming back, which the [service agreement](https://hdiss.net/service-agreement/) spells out. Support is by phone, email and chat, described on the [local support page](https://hdiss.net/local-support/).

## What happens if you reach out?

Send your address through the [address check](https://hdiss.net/check-availability/) or call 775-575-9593, any day from 9 to 5. A person looks at the path from the nearest tower to your roof and calls you back with a plain answer, including when the answer is that the path is not clear.
