# Do I need to be home for the install?

Plan on being home, or on having an adult you trust there. The service agreement requires you to give reasonable access to the premises, and the technician needs someone to agree where the equipment goes and where the cable enters.

The company has not published a rule that says an adult must be present, so this answer comes from the agreement and from common sense. If you cannot be home, say so when you schedule.

## What does the agreement say?

Section 11.A says the customer provides reasonable access to the premises and adequate work space so the company can do the installation. It also asks the customer to make the premises free of hazardous material and dangerous conditions before work starts. Section 12.A adds that if a technician is sent and cannot do the work because of a lack of access, the visit is billed at current time and material rates.

So a locked gate, a dog loose in the yard or a house nobody answers can turn into a wasted visit and a charge. The amount is not published; ask.

## Why does someone need to be there?

The technician looks at the layout of the home and property, picks the spot for the antenna and decides where the cable comes in. Those are your walls and your roof, and the choice is easier with you present. Reviewers describe the technician surveying the property and checking the placement with the owner of the company, so a quick talk is part of the visit.

The visit also ends with a test. You will want to see the connection working in the rooms you use. The guide on [how to get ready for your install](https://hdiss.net/guides/how-to-get-ready-for-your-install/) lists what to clear, and [what happens on installation day](https://hdiss.net/guides/what-happens-on-installation-day/) gives the order of the visit.

## What if I rent or cannot be home?

If you rent, the landlord has to agree to the work first. The guide on [landlords, HOAs and the OTARD rule](https://hdiss.net/guides/landlords-hoas-and-the-otard-rule/) explains the FCC rule and its limits. If you cannot be home, ask the office whether a trusted adult can stand in, and give that person your permission in writing.

Payment is due on install day, as a labor charge plus a prorated month (Section I.C), so settle how you will pay before the date. Start with the [address check](https://hdiss.net/check-availability/) or call 775-575-9593.
