# Do you drill holes in my house?

Usually something has to go through a wall or a similar opening, because the cable from the outdoor antenna must reach the power injector inside. The company has not published how it does this at each house, so ask the technician before work begins.

It is your house, and this is a fair question to put first. The honest answer says what must happen and where you have a say.

## Why does a cable have to come in?

The outdoor antenna and radio receive the signal, and one cable carries data and power to the injector indoors. From the injector, an Ethernet cable runs to your router. No wireless hop replaces that cable, so there has to be a way in. Where it enters is a choice made on site, often near where the injector will sit.

Some homes already have an opening used by an earlier line, such as a cable or phone line. The technician may use it if it suits the run. Whether this is possible at your home, the company cannot say before the visit.

## What can I ask for?

Ask the technician three things: where the cable will go in, how the opening will be sealed, and how the cable will be secured outside. Say if there is a wall you do not want drilled, or a finish, such as stucco or log, that needs care. The guide on [stucco, adobe and metal walls](https://hdiss.net/guides/stucco-adobe-and-metal-walls/) covers what those walls mean for Wi-Fi inside.

The agreement says the customer is responsible for any alterations of the structure made to provide the service after the service ends (Section 11.C). Ask what will be left in place if you ever cancel, and who closes the opening.

## What about renters?

Renters need the owner's agreement before anything goes through a wall. Ask in writing. See [landlords, HOAs and the OTARD rule](https://hdiss.net/guides/landlords-hoas-and-the-otard-rule/), which is general information and not legal advice about your lease.

Start with the [address check](https://hdiss.net/check-availability/). When the office calls back, mention that you want to talk through the cable path.
