# Where will the antenna go on my house?

It goes where it has the clearest view of the tower, and the technician decides the spot with you on site. That is often the roof or the side of the house, but the company has not published a standard spot.

People worry about how the equipment will look and where it will sit, and the answer is practical. The signal sets the place, and your wishes set the limits.

## What makes one spot better than another?

The antenna needs a straight line to the tower. A spot over the roofline can see over a tree that a spot under the eave cannot. The technician checks the line at the property and may try more than one position. The guide on [what line of sight means](https://hdiss.net/guides/what-line-of-sight-means/) explains why a few feet can matter.

Convenience counts too. The cable runs from the antenna to the inside of the house, so a spot close to where the equipment will sit indoors keeps the run short. See [whether the technician drills holes](https://hdiss.net/faq/installation/do-you-drill-holes-in-my-house/) for what that cable involves.

## What do I get to say?

A good deal. The technician looks for a spot that sees the tower and talks the placement through with you before work begins; the company has not published a written placement policy, so say early what matters to you. Tell them what matters, such as keeping the front of the house clean, avoiding a roof you do not want touched, or using a barn or shop that sits closer to the tower.

Where a spot you like cannot see the tower, the technician tells you, and the page on [poles and masts](https://hdiss.net/faq/availability-and-line-of-sight/antenna-on-a-pole-or-mast/) covers the options for a taller mount.

## Who owns it and who may move it?

The antenna, radio, power supply and injector stay the company's property (Section 10). Do not move the antenna yourself; its aim matters. If you want it moved later, call. The company has not published a relocation policy or price, so ask what a move costs.
