# Broadband label

A broadband label works like a nutrition label for internet plans. It lists price, fees, typical speeds, latency and the data allowance in a set layout so plans can be compared.

## What is a broadband label?

The FCC adopted the label rules in 2022 under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and they are in 47 CFR 8.1. Each stand-alone plan needs one, shown where the plan is offered. Fields include monthly price, introductory rate and its length, one-time fees, typical download and upload speed, latency, data allowance, links to the provider's network management and privacy policies, and customer support contact information.

On July 22, 2026 the FCC adopted a Report and Order (FCC 26-48) that eases some parts, such as allowing an icon or link next to a plan and allowing phone sales to summarize the fields aloud. The FCC notes that part of that order has not yet taken effect, so check the FCC page for the current rule.

## How does it help a shopper here?

A label separates the advertised "up to" speed from the typical speed and puts fees in one place, so two plans from different companies can be compared fairly. It makes a promotional price and its end date harder to miss. Our guide [how to read a broadband label](https://hdiss.net/guides/how-to-read-a-broadband-label/) goes field by field.

This page does not claim anything about High Desert's own labels. For plan details, the company's plans are listed on [the plans page](https://hdiss.net/internet-plans/), and questions about typical speed, the data allowance or fees go to 775-575-9593.

## What should I do about it?

When you compare plans from any provider, ask for the label or look for the link beside the plan. Write the fields side by side: price, intro length, typical speeds, data allowance and fees. Compare the typical speed to your needs, not the headline number.

The FCC explains the layout and takes complaints about missing or inaccurate labels at fcc.gov/broadbandlabels.
