# Broadband Serviceable Location

A broadband serviceable location is one point on the map, such as a house or a shop. Programs and maps count locations, not people.

## What is Broadband Serviceable Location?

The FCC's map data sits on a list of locations that could be served, sometimes called the Fabric. Each is a building or a lot with a street address or a coordinate. A provider reports, for each one, what it can offer there. The FCC pages that define the term blocked our fetch on 2026-10-15, so this entry gives the general meaning only.

Counts of locations in grant programs are therefore different from counts of households or people.

A single building with several units may count once or several times, depending on how the list was built. That is one reason location counts and household counts differ.

## Why does it matter on a fixed wireless connection?

Rural locations can be hard to place. A cabin on a ranch road, a second home, a manufactured home on a lot and a shop all may or may not be on the list, and the list can include a building that is empty. When a map shows too few or too many, a challenge lets a person correct it.

The Nevada BEAD plan is stated in locations, such as the 26,236 BEAD-eligible locations NTIA listed in January 2026, per the project's research notes. Read [unserved and underserved](https://hdiss.net/glossary/unserved-and-underserved/).

## What should I do about it?

Look for your own address on the FCC map at https://broadbandmap.fcc.gov. If it is missing, or the map shows a speed you cannot get, the guide [challenge the FCC map](https://hdiss.net/guides/challenge-the-fcc-map/) shows how to ask for a fix. Correct data can help your road later.
