# How to cancel: two weeks notice and returning equipment

The service agreement asks for two weeks notice and for all equipment to be recovered before monthly billing stops, after which a final bill is sent. High Desert also says it has no contracts, so there is no term to wait out.

Canceling is a short list of steps if you take them in the right order. The reasons are in the agreement, which this guide reads in plain words. Where the agreement says nothing, this page says so instead of guessing.

## Takeaways

- Give two weeks notice. Billing does not stop until the equipment is recovered and a final bill is sent.
- Returned equipment must be undamaged and back within five calendar days of the end of service.
- Lost or damaged equipment is charged at its value, about $500 wholesale per the agreement.
- The agreement lists no early-termination charge, and High Desert says it has no contracts. Ask about refunds of unused days; the agreement does not say.

## What does the agreement say about ending service?

Section I.D of the agreement says two weeks notice is required and all equipment must be recovered before monthly billing will be stopped and a final bill will be issued. The cancellation section repeats it: two weeks notice and full recovery of all equipment are required before monthly charges stop. Read them together as one rule. The clock that matters is not the day you say goodbye but the day the equipment is back in High Desert's hands.

The line you will not find is a cancellation fee. The text we read lists charges for lost or damaged equipment, data over the limit and visits where no fault is found, but no charge for leaving. If you want that confirmed for your account, ask the office to say it in writing when you give notice.

## How do I give notice?

Call 775-575-9593 or 775-391-5660, 9 to 5 every day, and say plainly that you want to end service and on what date. Then send a short email to info@hdiss.net with your name, service address and the date you gave on the phone. Questions about the agreement itself go to billing@hdiss.net in writing. A dated message gives both sides the same record.

If you are moving, read [moving house: service and equipment](https://hdiss.net/guides/moving-house-service-and-equipment/) first, since you may be able to keep service at the new address.

## How do I return the equipment?

The antenna, radio, power supply and injector belong to High Desert, and the agreement says equipment must be returned undamaged within five calendar days of termination. The outdoor pieces are mounted on the building, so the office arranges the recovery; the agreement says the company can enter the property to recover its equipment. Do not climb up and unbolt anything. Call, and a technician comes.

The indoor power supply and injector are easier. Ask the office where to take them or whether they will be picked up with the rest. Your own router is yours and stays with you. For the general rules on ownership, see [who owns the antenna](https://hdiss.net/guides/who-owns-the-antenna/).

## What if equipment is missing or damaged?

The agreement says that if equipment is not returned, or is returned damaged, you are charged for its value, and it gives approximately $500 wholesale value for supplied equipment lost. Check the garage, the shed and the moving boxes before you call. If a storm or a falling branch damaged the antenna, tell the office when you first notice, not at the end of service. The agreement does not say who pays for storm damage, and the office can tell you how it handles it.

## What about the final bill and unused days?

A final bill is sent after the equipment is recovered. The agreement says nothing about refunding days you did not use in a month, so ask. The agreement prorates the first invoice but does not say the same for the last one, so do not rely on a guess. Pay the final bill from the same [Pay Online page](https://hdiss.net/pay-online/) as any other, or call if the amount looks wrong.

## What if I only want a break?

The agreement does not describe pausing service, and the help article on [pausing or canceling service](https://hdiss.net/support/pause-or-cancel-service/) covers what the office can do. For a seasonal cabin, read [internet for a rental or second home](https://hdiss.net/guides/internet-for-a-rental-or-second-home/). The office answers every day, so ask before you cancel, because ending service means a new address check and install if you come back.

## Questions people ask

### Is there a contract?

High Desert says it has no contracts. The agreement takes full effect when installation is complete, and ending it takes two weeks notice.

### Can I cancel by email?

Email a record after you phone. The agreement asks that questions about it be in writing to billing@hdiss.net, so a written note helps.
