Fixed wireless internet · Northern Nevada

# Northern Nevada’s own Internet Service Provider Since 2002.

A person in Reno answers the phone. Your tower is on the ridge, not 340 miles up.

Three plans: $50, $75 and $99 a month. No contracts.

Already a customer? [Pay online](https://www2.fernley.net/hdiss/onlinepay/paymentform.cfm) or [open Webmail](https://hdissmail.hdiss.net/mail/).

## Local from the tower to the phone call.

- Your tower up to about 40 miles On a Northern Nevada ridge. A Starlink satellite is about 340 miles up.
- In Northern Nevada 24 years Open since August 2002, in six counties.
- A person answers 9 to 5 every day Call [775-575-9593](tel:7755759593) or 775-391-5660.
- Storm at a tower? We go up the mountain. Our own crew drives up with fuel and tools to keep it running.

Tower distance: High Desert Internet Services. Starlink altitude: FCC Order FCC 21-48, April 27, 2021 (Starlink authorised at 540 to 570 km), about 335 to 354 miles. ## Three plans. One price each.

Every plan is wireless from our tower to an antenna on your home, with no contract and no phone line needed. Pick by how many people and screens you run at once.

$50 a month

Up to 500 Mbps down Up to 200 Mbps up

Runs a household: a 4K TV, a video call and a game at the same time, with room left over.

[Silver Package](https://hdiss.net/internet-plans/silver/)

$75 a month

Up to 800 Mbps down Up to 200 Mbps up

More headroom: a full house online at once, several 4K TVs, work from home and big downloads.

[Gold Package](https://hdiss.net/internet-plans/gold/)

$99 a month

Up to 1 Gig down Up to 200 Mbps up

The most headroom we sell: large households, a home office, cameras, backups and everything else at once.

[Check my address](https://hdiss.net/check-availability/?plan=gold#check)

Every speed is an up-to figure. What you see depends on the path from the tower to your roof, how many people are online and your Wi-Fi router. Each plan has a data transfer limit; ask us for yours at [info@hdiss.net](mailto:info@hdiss.net).

Ask about 1 Gig / 1 Gig.

Our ultra-low-latency service with upload as fast as download, in some areas. Check your address and tick "Ask about 1 Gig / 1 Gig" and we will tell you if your address can get it. [About the 1 Gig / 1 Gig service](https://hdiss.net/internet-plans/gig-symmetrical/).

Prices and speeds as published by High Desert Internet Services (hdiss.net, read 10/15/26). "Runs" lines use the FCC Household Broadband Guide and Broadband Speed Guide (fcc.gov), which the FCC calls rough guidelines; every High Desert plan is above the FCC's highest household band of more than 25 Mbps. Not sure which plan? [Use the plan picker](https://hdiss.net/#picker).

## The local alternative to Starlink and cable.

Most people who call us are leaving a promo that ended, a dish they set up themselves, or a cable line that never reached the house. Here is the plain comparison, in each company’s own words.

### Fed up with a promo that ended?

Cable prices are built for year one. Spectrum lists Internet 100 at $30 a month and Internet 500 at $40 a month (spectrum.com, read 10/15/26), each for one year, and then says “After one year, standard rates apply.” The standard rate is not printed on its plans page.

High Desert: the price on the card is the price. Bronze $50, Silver $75, Gold $99 a month. No promotional period, no contract, no step-up in month thirteen.

### Tired of a dish and a kit?

Starlink sells the kit separately (price shown on starlink.com after you enter an address), you set the dish up yourself on its 100 Mbps tier, and its own fine print says speeds “will be slower during times of congestion.”

High Desert: a local technician walks the path to your roof first. The antenna, radio and injector stay ours, and we repair or replace them if they fail. Nothing to buy up front but the install visit.

### Cable stops before your driveway?

Cable is built street by street. In June 2021 Charter (Spectrum) reported it could serve at least one location in 7,766 census blocks in Washoe County, 1,537 in Lyon County and 78 in Storey County, and the line ends where the last paying street ends.

High Desert: a tower on the ridge does not need a line on your road. It needs a clear path to your roof, which is why we check every address instead of promising a town.

## A tower, a clear path, your roof.

We send internet by microwave radio from a tower to a small antenna on your home. No phone line, no cable in the street. The one thing it needs is a clear path between the two, which is why we check every address before we promise anything.

What stands between the tower and your roof Clear path Tree in the way Hill in the way

Clear path. The beam lands. The technician mounts the antenna where it sees the tower and runs the cable to a power injector and your router inside.

Tree in the way. Trees block microwave radio. The technician looks for a mounting spot that sees around the tree, or a different tower. Sometimes the answer is no, and we say so.

Hill in the way. A hill between you and the tower is a hard stop for that tower. We check whether another tower sees your roof. If none does, we tell you straight.

- We check your address. You send the address or call. A person looks at the path from our nearest tower.
- We confirm the path at your home. A technician looks at the site and the mounting spot and answers your questions.
- Antenna outside, router inside. The antenna, radio, power supply and injector are ours and stay ours; if a piece fails we repair or replace it.
- You are online. Your bill starts the day of installation, prorated to your billing date. Cancel with two weeks notice.

[How installation works](https://hdiss.net/installation/)

## Want to know if we can reach your place?

It takes a minute to ask and a person answers.

## Our signal travels miles, not thousands of miles.

How far your signal travels, one way. Track lengths on a log scale (each tick is ten times the last); the dots move at one speed on this drawing. The longer the trip, the longer every click waits.

- Tower to your roof High Desert fixed wireless up to about 40 mi Distance as High Desert describes its links.
- Low-earth-orbit satellite Starlink about 340 mi up Altitude, rounded.
- Geostationary satellite HughesNet, Viasat about 22,000 mi up Altitude, rounded.

10 mi 100 mi 1,000 mi 10,000 mi

Tower distance: High Desert Internet Services. Starlink altitude: FCC Order FCC 21-48, April 27, 2021 (Starlink authorised at 540 to 570 km). Altitudes rounded.

### Is this satellite internet?

No. Satellite internet bounces your traffic off a satellite in space. Ours goes from a tower a few miles away to an antenna on your roof by microwave radio, and comes back the same way.

### Why does the distance matter?

Response time, called latency. A geostationary satellite sits about 22,000 miles up. Low-earth-orbit satellites sit about 340 miles up. Our link is a hop of up to about 40 miles from a tower to your roof.

### What about 5G home internet?

It is wireless too, from a cell tower. In Q3 2025 Ookla measured median latency of 50 to 67 ms for the three national 5G home internet services. The difference with us is who installs it, who you call, and that we aim an antenna at the tower instead of hoping the signal reaches a box in your window.

## 4.8 on Google from 36 reviews.

Real reviews from our Google listing, shown as first name and last initial.

I have been a customer for almost 20 yrs. They are a great company. Very helpful and reliable. I have always had great service. Thank you, High Desert Internet.

I have always been very happy with High Desert Internet. Their reliability and stellar service make me a forever fan. My equipment was just upgraded and quadrupled my speed with no change in price. The tech asked me about some of my livestock that were being characters years ago when the system was installed. They really care.

I work from home and have had no problem with my internet service. We also stream quite a bit and have been very happy with High Desert Services.

Reliable internet service in extremely rural areas

## What will your house run?

Tap what happens at your place at the same time. We add it up with the FCC's speed guide and point at a plan.

People online at once 8 Mbps each

− +

HD streaming or browsing, top of the FCC's 5 to 8 Mbps HD band

4K TVs on at once 25 Mbps each

− +

FCC: streaming Ultra HD 4K video, 25 Mbps

Video calls or work from home 25 Mbps each

− +

FCC: telecommuting 5 to 25 Mbps, top of the band

Security cameras 8 Mbps up each

− +

Our assumption: cameras are not in the FCC guide, so each counts as one HD stream going up

Online gaming 7 Mbps FCC: online multiplayer 4 Mbps plus 3 for the game console

Big downloads 10 Mbps FCC: file downloading, 10 Mbps

Your household adds up to about

56 Mbps down 0 Mbps up

FCC band: Advanced (more than 25 Mbps)

- Bronze $50 a month up to 500 Mbps down
- Silver $75 a month up to 800 Mbps down
- Gold $99 a month up to 1 Gig down

The FCC calls anything over 25 Mbps "Advanced" service, and every High Desert plan is far above that. Our suggestion: Bronze.

Our suggestion, not a rule. Speeds on every plan are "up to".

[Check my address for this plan](#check) The adding-up needs JavaScript. Without it: one or two people browsing and streaming fit Bronze; several TVs, cameras and people online at once fit Silver; the busiest households and home offices fit Gold.

FCC Household Broadband Guide and Broadband Speed Guide, fcc.gov. The FCC calls these rough guidelines, and so do we. Speeds on every plan are "up to".

## Questions people ask first.

### Do you serve my address?

We cannot tell from a town name. Fixed wireless needs a clear path from one of our towers to your roof, so we check each address. Send it through the form or call 775-575-9593 and a person looks at the path and calls you back.

### Is there a contract?

No contracts. You cancel with two weeks notice and we pick up our equipment.

### What does it cost?

Bronze is $50 a month, Silver $75 and Gold $99, for homes and small businesses. Installation and any materials are billed on the install date along with the first prorated month; we quote that when we confirm your address. No price is hidden behind a promotion.

### Is it satellite?

No. Our signal travels from a tower a few miles away to an antenna on your home, not to space and back.

### What do I need at the house?

Power and a spot outside that sees the tower. We supply and keep ownership of the antenna, radio, power supply and injector, and repair or replace them if they fail. You connect your own Wi-Fi router.

### Is there a data limit?

Each plan has a data transfer limit. Email info@hdiss.net or call and we tell you the figure for your plan. Over the limit is $1 per gigabyte in a billing cycle.

### Who do I call when something goes wrong?

Us. 775-575-9593 or 775-391-5660, 9 to 5 every day, and the help center online for email settings and common fixes.

### Can I pay my bill online?

Yes. The Pay Online link at the top of every page opens our secure payment page. Written questions about your agreement go to billing@hdiss.net.

## Can we reach your roof? Ask us.

Send your address and a person looks at the path from our nearest tower, then calls you. No commitment, nothing to buy online. Prefer to talk? 775-575-9593 or 775-391-5660, 9 to 5 every day.
