# Arlo cameras on your High Desert connection

Arlo's requirements page lists an average minimum upload per camera: Ultra Series 3 Mbps, Pro 3 and newer, Essential, wired floodlight and video doorbells a minimum of 2 Mbps each, and all other cameras 1 Mbps. Below that, Arlo says you can see pixelated video and a delay when a live view starts.

Arlo's page is one of the clearest in this group because it gives a number per camera line. That makes the sum easy: count your cameras by line and add. The result is what to compare with your upload speed.

## Steps

- List your cameras by line Look in the Arlo app for each camera's model name. Ultra, Pro, Essential, Floodlight and Doorbell lines have different figures.
- Add the minimums Arlo's page says the figure is an average minimum per device: Ultra Series 3 Mbps, Pro Series (Pro 3 and newer) 2, Essential 2, Wired Floodlight 2, Video Doorbells 2 and all other cameras 1. A system with two Essential cameras and one doorbell needs 6 Mbps.
- Check what kind of connection each camera uses Arlo's page says direct-to-Wi-Fi cameras need a 2.4 GHz router band, while a SmartHub or Base Station needs a router with a free Ethernet port.
- Plug a hub into the router, not the injector The hub cable goes to a free LAN port on your router. The High Desert injector cable stays in the router's internet (WAN) port.
- Test your upload Use [the speed test guide](https://hdiss.net/guides/how-to-run-a-speed-test/) wired to the router. Compare with the sum from step two.
- Watch for the symptom Arlo names Pixelated video or a long wait before live view starts means the camera is not getting its minimum.
- Lower quality or add a node if it falls short Changing a camera's quality setting in the app reduces its upload. A closer router or a mesh node helps a weak Wi-Fi signal.

## Does the High Desert upload cover this?

Plans list up to 200 Mbps for upload, an up-to figure, so a household with a handful of cameras sits well under the number on paper. The real test is your own, at a busy hour. Video adds up over a month. The service agreement says each service level has a data transfer limit, available by email at info@hdiss.net, with $1 per gigabyte charged for use over it in a billing cycle.

## Where do the recordings go?

Arlo's page does not say here, and this page makes no claim about its storage options. Check Arlo's product pages for cloud and local choices, and read [security camera upload use](https://hdiss.net/guides/security-camera-upload-use/) for the general picture.

## What if a camera drops off at night?

Cameras with night vision may move more data, and motion events cluster. See which camera is the one that drops and compare its Wi-Fi signal. [Wi-Fi dead spots](https://hdiss.net/support/wifi-dead-spots/) helps.

## Do I need to go outside or touch the antenna for this?

None of these steps involve the outdoor equipment. Do not climb to it, and do not pull or bend its cable. If you think it is the cause, call.
