# High Desert Internet outage: check and report

This site has no live status board, so the quickest way to learn whether the trouble is yours or wider is to check your equipment, restart it in order and call 775-575-9593 or 775-391-5660, where a person answers 9 to 5 every day. You can also write to info@hdiss.net; do not climb to the antenna or touch the radio.

Searching for an outage page is a sign something is wrong, so this one starts with what to do rather than a general description. We say nothing here about the state of the network right now, because a page cannot know.

## Steps

- Test a second device and a second site One site down is not an outage. Try a phone on Wi-Fi and a laptop on a few different sites.
- Look at the lights The router and the power injector should be lit. A dark injector is a power problem at your end; read [the lights on the power injector](https://hdiss.net/support/power-injector-lights/).
- Restart in order Use [restart your equipment](https://hdiss.net/support/restart-your-equipment/): router off, injector off, injector on, router on.
- Ask a neighbor If a neighbor on High Desert Internet also lost service, that helps you describe it. Do not speculate about the cause.
- Call to report Call 775-575-9593, the main line, or 775-391-5660. Hours are 9 to 5, every day.
- Give the details Service address, name, what you tried and what the lights show.
- Write if you prefer Email info@hdiss.net with the same details. Billing questions go in writing to billing@hdiss.net.

## Is High Desert Internet down right now?

We cannot tell you from a web page. A status line that is wrong is worse than none. The way to find out is to check your own equipment and phone the office, where a person can see whether other customers have reported the same. If you have no connection, use a cellular phone for the call or for the email.

## What should I tell you when I report it?

Your name and street address, when it stopped, whether the power flickered, whether the injector and router lights are on, and what you already tried. If it is the first time or it keeps coming back, say so. Mention a storm, a power outage or tree work if you know of one. Do not guess about the cause.

## Why can I not just go look at the antenna?

The antenna and radio are mounted outdoors, high and powered. Climbing is the one part of this problem that can hurt you. Never climb to the antenna or touch the outdoor radio or its cable. If something looks wrong from the ground, read [after a wind storm](https://hdiss.net/support/after-a-wind-storm/) and describe it on the phone.

## Is there a credit for an outage?

The service agreement says temporary interruptions may occur, that the company exercises reasonable care to prevent them, and that the company is not liable for consequential losses. It does not describe an outage credit. If you want to ask, write to billing@hdiss.net; the agreement asks that questions about it be in writing. Read the exact words at the [service agreement page](https://hdiss.net/service-agreement/).

## What about after hours?

The office answers 9 to 5. A tower outage is worked at any hour, the way a power company works a storm; a problem at one address is handled in office hours. Leave a message with the number where you can be reached and the details above.

## What if the outage is on my street and not only my house?

Then the cause may be power. NV Energy outages take out every device on the street, including our customers' equipment. The guide on [NV Energy outages and staying online](https://hdiss.net/guides/nv-energy-outages-and-staying-online/) explains where to report a power outage. A phone with cellular data and a charged battery is useful to keep ready.

## What can I do while I wait?

Use your phone's own data for the urgent thing, if your plan allows. Turn off cloud backups and large downloads so they do not start in a rush when the connection returns. Leave the router and injector plugged in, since they find the link by themselves when it is back. Do not repeat restarts every few minutes; each one restarts the search from zero.

Safety: never climb to the antenna or touch the outdoor radio or its cable on the roof. If something outside looks loose or damaged, call us and we send a technician.
