# Set up eero on your High Desert connection

Plug the High Desert injector cable into the gateway eero, the one with an Ethernet port, power it on and follow the eero app. If the app cannot find an internet connection, call 775-575-9593.

An eero system has one gateway unit that connects to the internet line and other units that spread Wi-Fi. eero's support pages say the gateway needs an Ethernet port, a power cord, an Ethernet cable and an internet connection. The company's page itself returned a server error, so check it directly if a screen differs.

## Steps

- Install the eero app and create an account Do this first so the app is ready when the unit lights up.
- Disconnect the old router Unplug the cable that goes from the High Desert injector to your old router. Leave the injector powered.
- Connect the injector cable to the gateway eero Either Ethernet port on the unit works, per a summary of eero's support text. Your High Desert service arrives on the Ethernet cable that leaves the indoor power injector; it plugs into the router's internet (WAN) port.
- Plug in the gateway eero Wait for the light to show it is ready for setup. The app tells you what the colors mean.
- Follow the app The app detects the gateway, then asks you to name the network and set a password.
- Add the other eeros The summary says extra units can connect by Wi-Fi or by Ethernet, and Ethernet is more stable. The app guides placement.
- If the app reports no internet Restart the injector, wait for its light, restart the eero, and try again. Then call 775-575-9593. A summary of eero's support text says some providers need special configuration, so ask us before you change any advanced setting.

## Does eero need a modem?

A summary of eero's support text says eero works with a modem, a fiber terminal or other upstream device, as long as an Ethernet cable can reach the gateway. For High Desert, the upstream device is the power injector, not a modem.

## Does eero have a subscription?

We do not publish eero's prices, and none of this page depends on one. Check eero's site for what its plans include.

## Where do I put the second eero?

Place it where it still gets a good signal from the first. The guide [whole-home Wi-Fi and mesh](https://hdiss.net/guides/whole-home-wifi-and-mesh/) covers placement, and [Wi-Fi dead spots](https://hdiss.net/support/wifi-dead-spots/) helps if one room stays weak.

## Do I need to go outside or touch the antenna for this?

This task never calls for a ladder. The outdoor radio and the cable that runs to it should not be touched by anyone but our technician.
