# RingCentral phones and app on your High Desert connection

RingCentral's pages give about 90 to 100 Kbps of dedicated bandwidth for each call and recommend QoS on the router, but the pages disagree on several other numbers. This site prints none of the others and makes no claim about delay on any line. Test with a real call at a busy hour and ask RingCentral for its current requirements.

RingCentral is a business phone service used on desk phones and an app. Its network pages are long and written for office IT. A home office on a fixed wireless line mainly needs steady upload, a router that can prioritize voice, and a wired phone where possible.

## Steps

- Open RingCentral's network requirements Its pages cover bandwidth, ports and QoS. Several of them are dated, so read the current one for your plan.
- Plan about 90 to 100 Kbps per call Different RingCentral documents give 90, 92 and 100 Kbps per call, in each direction. Add one figure for each phone that may be on a call at once.
- Wire desk phones to the router A cable avoids Wi-Fi dips. Plug phones into LAN ports; the injector cable stays in the router's WAN port.
- Look for QoS on your router RingCentral recommends turning on QoS to prioritize voice over large downloads. Read [prioritizing video calls with QoS](https://hdiss.net/guides/prioritize-video-calls-with-qos/).
- Use the app on a strong signal The app on a laptop or phone depends on Wi-Fi. Put it near the router or on a cable.
- Run a test call at the busiest hour Place a call while the house is busy and listen for choppy speech.
- Ask RingCentral if the test is poor They can look at the call quality from their side.

## Why does this page print so few numbers?

Because RingCentral's own documents disagree. One lists a strict target for jitter and packet loss, another a looser one. Printing one set as fact would be a guess. We make no claim about delay on a High Desert line and publish no latency figure.

## Is a business plan different?

A shop with a card reader and phones shares one line. [Card readers and point of sale](https://hdiss.net/guides/card-readers-and-point-of-sale/) and [backup internet for a small business](https://hdiss.net/guides/backup-internet-for-a-small-business/) cover the wider picture.

## What if an outage stops calls?

Phones that depend on the internet stop when the line does. RingCentral's app on a cell phone using cellular data is a common fallback. Check with RingCentral for how to set it up.

## What should a home office do before relying on it?

Run the phones for a day before you move the whole office over. Watch for the hours when family members stream video or sync photos, because those are the hours calls suffer. If a pattern shows, move the heavy uploads to another time or ask your router for a quality-of-service rule for voice.

Write down the make and model of the router and whether it has QoS. RingCentral publishes configuration guides for some router brands, and a support agent can point you to the right one. Keep our number, 775-575-9593, beside the phone for line problems.

## Do I need to go outside or touch the antenna for this?

If the fix is not inside the house, it is ours. Do not climb to the antenna or handle the radio cable.
