Internet for streaming in rural Northern Nevada
The FCC's Broadband Speed Guide lists 4K streaming at 25 Mbps for each stream, so four 4K TVs at once, each at 25 Mbps, come to about 100 Mbps, well under the up to 500 Mbps on Bronze. The question that matters more is the data transfer limit on each plan, because streaming is the biggest user of it.

A customer wrote in May 2025 that the household can "stream many devices" and that service problems get fixed quickly (Dario S., Google review). Streaming is where most households first feel a slow connection, and it is also where a plan's advertised speed and its monthly data allowance pull in different directions.
How many TVs can stream at once?
Count the streams and multiply. The FCC's Broadband Speed Guide gives 25 Mbps for Ultra HD 4K video and 5 to 8 Mbps for HD, each for one stream, and says additional speed can improve performance. Four 4K TVs at the same time, each at 25 Mbps, come to about 100 Mbps. Add a video call and a phone or two and a household of five still lands far below the up to 500 Mbps that Bronze lists.
That arithmetic is a floor, not a promise. The speeds on the plan cards are maximums, and the real number at your house depends on the path to the tower and on your Wi-Fi. The household speed guide walks through the same sums with the FCC's own table.
Why does a stream buffer when the plan is fast?
Buffering usually points at the last twenty feet. A smart TV on weak Wi-Fi, a router in a cabinet, or one old device on the 2.4 GHz band can starve a stream while a speed test on a laptop looks fine. Plug the TV in with Ethernet if it can reach, or move the router, before you blame the plan. The smart TV guide and the dead spots article go through it step by step.
Evening is the other usual suspect. A streaming service's own servers, your neighbors' traffic on a shared network and a busy home all peak together. High Desert publishes no figure for evening speeds, so if your picture drops every night at the same hour, call and a person can look at the link.
Does streaming count against my data limit?
Yes. Each High Desert plan has a data transfer limit, and the sizes are available by emailing info@hdiss.net. The service agreement charges $1 per gigabyte over the limit in a monthly billing cycle. This page prints no limit size because none is published, and we never describe a plan as unlimited.
Streaming services publish their own hourly figures, and 4K uses much more than HD. The streaming data guide lists them with their dates so you can multiply by your own evenings. Ask for your plan's limit before you decide, and again if your viewing changes.
Can I drop cable TV and stream everything?
Many households do, and High Desert is internet only: it sells no television package. If you are weighing it, the TV without cable guide lists what the streaming route needs. The first test is whether your address has a clear path to a tower, since without internet there is nothing to stream.
If your cable company's internet stops at the end of your road, the guide on when cable stops compares the other ways to get online.
Which plan for a streaming house?
For one or two TVs, Bronze at $50 a month has room on the FCC's numbers. For a full house with several 4K sets, game consoles and phones, Silver at $75 with up to 800 Mbps or Gold at $99 with up to 1 Gig adds headroom for everyone being online together. Because every plan has a data transfer limit, ask about the limit for the plan you are leaning toward before you choose by speed alone.
Households that stream a lot should also think about the router: a modern router placed in the open, with the indoor line from the power injector plugged into its internet port, matters as much as the plan. Send your address and a person will look at the path from the nearest tower, then call you back with what the check found.

Prices and speeds as published by High Desert Internet Services (hdiss.net, read 10/15/26). "Runs" lines use the FCC Household Broadband Guide and Broadband Speed Guide (fcc.gov), which the FCC calls rough guidelines; every High Desert plan is above the FCC's highest household band of more than 25 Mbps. Not sure which plan? Use the plan picker.
Is 4K worth it on a rural connection?
The FCC lists 25 Mbps per 4K stream, which every plan clears on paper. Data use is the tradeoff, because 4K counts toward the limit faster than HD.
Will two people streaming slow each other down?
Only when the total passes what your link and Wi-Fi can carry. For two or three streams that is rare; check the Wi-Fi first.
