Internet in Churchill County, NV: Fallon, the farms and the homes with no subscription
Churchill County has the highest share of households with no internet subscription of the six counties we work in, 8.6 percent or about 823 households (U.S. Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024 5-year, table B28002). How Churchill County gets online
U.S. Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024 5-year, table B28002 (internet subscriptions), retrieved 2026-10-02. Households can report more than one type, so the shares do not add to 100. The ACS has no fixed-wireless line: those homes are counted under cable, fiber or DSL, or under other service. The thin mark on each bar is Nevada.
Churchill County is irrigated fields and canals around one town, Fallon, with long county roads between farmhouses. In town the choices are broader. Out on the farm roads they narrow quickly, and that is the part of the county where a fixed wireless link matters.
At a glance
- No internet subscription: 8.6 percent of households, about 823 (Census ACS 2020-2024, B28002); Nevada is 5.3 percent.
- Wired subscription: 79.1 percent of households, close to the 76.6 percent for Nevada.
- CC Communications says on its site that 98 percent of Churchill County is fiber-connected (read 10/15/26).
- Three BEAD projects are listed for the county, one of them a fiber project around Fallon (provisional).
How do Churchill County homes get online today?
Of 9,516 households, 79.1 percent report a cable, fiber or DSL type subscription, 6.2 percent satellite (591 households), 8.0 percent a phone data plan only and 8.6 percent no subscription of any kind (U.S. Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024 5-year, table B28002). The no-subscription share is the standout. It is higher than in any other county we work in, and the survey does not say why; cost, choice and lack of a wire all show up in that number.
Manufactured homes are 16.9 percent of housing units, the median age is 40.4, and the county has 485 business establishments with 5,689 employees (County Business Patterns 2023).
Who else publishes service in Churchill County?
CC Communications, a Fallon company that lists 1889 as its starting year, states on its own site (read 10/15/26) that 98 percent of Churchill County is already fiber-connected and that it offers up to 1 Gigabit service, with prices shown after an address lookup. That is its description of its network, not ours. The FCC's June 2021 Form 477 filing agrees that fiber was reported in the county, alongside Charter on cable, Choice Splash on fixed wireless, and the three satellite companies.
A Fallon address that sits on that fiber has a good local option. High Desert's place is the roof that does not, or the household that wants a month-to-month tower connection from another local company. The Fallon page goes into the town itself, and the CC Communications comparison sets the published facts side by side.
What is the state building in Churchill County?
Nevada's BEAD plan, which NTIA approved on January 8, 2026, lists three provisional projects in the county. Hot Spot Broadband is listed as subgrantee for a Fallon fiber project of 885 locations with an estimated end of November 30, 2026; Amazon Kuiper Commercial Services is listed for Sheckler Reservoir and Stillwater, both low-earth-orbit satellite. Each is subject to change, and High Desert is not a subgrantee. The Churchill County BEAD page has the details.
What does High Desert offer a farm?
Bronze is $50 a month with up to 500 Mbps down, Silver $75 with up to 800, and Gold $99 with up to 1 Gig, all with up to 200 Mbps up and no contracts (hdiss.net, read 10/15/26). For fields and outbuildings, see internet for farms and the guide to farms outside Fallon.
Who lives in Churchill County: income, house age and home offices
Census figures for Churchill County put the median household income at about $79,000 (Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024 5-year, tables B19013, B25034, B08301, B28004 and B28005, pulled October 16, 2026). Homes built in 2010 or later are 7.9 percent of the housing here, and homes from before 1990 are 50.5 percent (Nevada: 15.3 percent newer, 36 percent older). Working from home: 6.1 percent of workers in Churchill County, 11.9 percent for Nevada, the households that notice upload speed first. Income still shapes who subscribes: 66 percent of households under $35,000 a year report broadband, and 98.8 percent of those at $75,000 or more (table B28004). For residents 65 and older, 85 percent live with a broadband subscription at home (table B28005; Nevada 88.1 percent).
What does the FCC's December 2025 map show for Churchill County?
Every Churchill County number here carries the FCC's caveat that a listed location is a provider's claim it could connect that building within ten business days, and the agency asks the public to challenge the map where that is wrong. With that said, Churchill County shows 8,755 of 10,465 locations with a wired 100/20 filing and 858 where only a fixed wireless filing reached 100/20; separately, 765 had no land-based filing at 25/3 or better, leaving satellite as the only reported option. The Churchill County location counts are buildings, not homes or customers, and they come from each company's own filing to the FCC. (FCC Broadband Data Collection, December 31, 2025 data, read October 16, 2026.)
How often do wind and snow hit Churchill County?
Weather records for Churchill County come by National Weather Service forecast zone; the counts below cover 2015 through 2025 (NOAA NCEI Storm Events Database, detail files pulled October 16, 2026). For the Western Nevada Basin and Range zone the count is 44 high wind episodes, peaking at 12 in 2023, and the strongest gust in those rows was 76 knots (about 87 mph) (February 2025). The same zone logged 7 heavy snow episodes (most in 2018) and 5 wildfire episodes. They describe the weather, not anyone's uptime. The weather and a wireless link guide covers what wind and snow do to a roof antenna.
How fast is Churchill County adding houses?
New single-family homes authorized by permit in Churchill County, 2019 through 2025: 562 in all, peaking at 144 in 2022 (U.S. Census Bureau, Building Permits Survey, pulled October 16, 2026; 97 in 2019, 104 in 2021, 37 in 2023, 36 in 2025). Permits count houses, not wires: nothing in the survey says which new streets in Churchill County a cable line has reached, which is why a new build is checked by address.

Questions from Churchill County
Still have a question? Call 775-575-9593, 9 to 5 every day.
Is fiber available everywhere in Churchill County?
That is a question for CC Communications, which publishes an address lookup. It says on its site that 98 percent of the county is fiber-connected, and it does not publish prices on the pages we read.
Can High Desert serve a farm outside Fallon?
Possibly. A tower has to see the building where the antenna goes, so the address check looks at that roof or outbuilding, not the field.
Why are so many Churchill County households without internet?
The Census does not ask why. The figure is 8.6 percent of households, or about 823.
Open 9-5 every day
Can we reach your roof?
Send the address. A person looks at the path from our nearest tower and calls you back: clear, not clear, or we need to look at it from your roof.
