Internet at McCarran and the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center: what reaches you and how to check an address

The industrial center east of Sparks has far more jobs than residents: ZIP 89437 reports 38 business establishments with 10,489 employees (U.S. Census Bureau, ZIP Code Business Patterns 2023). High Desert Internet Services sends fixed wireless from a tower to a roof, and it checks a business or a home near McCarran by address.

Terrain and line of sight in McCarran

The industrial center sits at about 4,540 feet on open ground east of Sparks, near I-80. Wide, flat lots with few tall trees are favorable terrain for a radio path, and large buildings are the main obstacle: warehouses and metal-clad plants block signals as completely as hills do.

Because a business has a lot of say about where its antenna goes, a roof or a pole on the side of the building facing the tower can often be chosen. A technician and the person who manages the building decide that together.

This page is about work first. The Census publishes no household internet profile for McCarran, so there is no satellite share to report and none is invented here. What exists is a count of employers, an industrial park in Storey County, and the people who commute to it from rural homes.

How many jobs and how few residents?

Two ZIP codes cover the area. ZIP 89437 reports 38 establishments with 10,489 employees, and the larger ZIP 89434 reports 555 establishments with 21,018 employees (U.S. Census Bureau, ZIP Code Business Patterns 2023). Storey County overall has 4,140 residents, 159 establishments and 13,213 employees (County Business Patterns 2023). That gap is the industrial park, which is why no household profile fits the place.

These business counts are by workplace, not by where workers live, so they say nothing about home internet at all.

What does a business need from a connection here?

The business pages cover this in depth: upload for cameras, backups and VoIP phones, and the plain fact that High Desert publishes no dedicated-circuit, static-IP or response-time terms, so those are questions to ask by phone. Each plan publishes up to 200 Mbps up (hdiss.net, read 10/15/26): Bronze is $50 a month with up to 500 Mbps down, Silver $75 with up to 800, Gold $99 with up to 1 Gig. See business internet at McCarran and the checklist for a new location.

What about people who work here and live rural?

The commute is long for many. Working Storey County residents report a mean commute of 38.7 minutes (ACS 2020-2024), and 17.5 percent of the county's workers work from home. Someone who drives to the industrial center and lives on acreage uses home internet on the nights and days off. The guide on commuters living rural covers that situation.

Who else reports service here?

The FCC's June 2021 Form 477 filing for Storey County lists Net NV and Sky Fiber on fixed wireless, Charter and AT&T, and the satellite providers. Rango's Reno Metro page lists McCarran 89434 among its ZIPs (read 10/15/26). Business-grade service is the question for each company directly; broadbandmap.fcc.gov shows what each reports at an address.

How does the address check work for a business?

Send the street address and say which building or yard needs the connection. A person looks at the tower path and calls back; for a larger site, expect a conversation about the site plan, not a form answer.

Every speed is an up-to figure. What you see depends on the path from the tower to your roof, how many people are online and your Wi-Fi router. Each plan has a data transfer limit; ask us for yours at info@hdiss.net.

Ask about 1 Gig / 1 Gig.

Our ultra-low-latency service with upload as fast as download, in some areas. Check your address and tick "Ask about 1 Gig / 1 Gig" and we will tell you if your address can get it. About the 1 Gig / 1 Gig service.

Prices and speeds as published by High Desert Internet Services (hdiss.net, read 10/15/26). "Runs" lines use the FCC Household Broadband Guide and Broadband Speed Guide (fcc.gov), which the FCC calls rough guidelines; every High Desert plan is above the FCC's highest household band of more than 25 Mbps.
