High Desert Internet Services sends fixed wireless from a tower to the roof, and the check is by address.

How East Valley gets online

  • Any internet subscriptionabout 92%
  • Cable, fiber, DSL (or fixed wireless)about 69%
  • Satelliteabout 26%
  • Phone data plan onlyabout 8%
  • No internet at homeabout 6%

U.S. Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024 5-year, table B28002 (internet subscriptions), retrieved 2026-10-02. Households can report more than one type, so the shares do not add to 100. The ACS has no fixed-wireless line: those homes are counted under cable, fiber or DSL, or under other service. The thin mark on each bar is Nevada.

Terrain and line of sight in East Valley

The community lies at about 4,940 feet on gently rising ground east of the valley's main roads. Roads here run long and the lots are large, so a house is often a good distance from its nearest neighbor and its nearest wire.

That distance may be one reason a dish is common here. A tower link asks only for a clear path, so it can fit. The roof and the trees around it decide.

East Valley is the stretch of Carson Valley along the eastern side, between the valley floor and the Pine Nut Mountains. It has about 600 households, large lots and some of the oldest median ages in the county.

How do East Valley homes get online today?

Of about 600 households, about 69 percent report a cable, fiber or DSL type subscription, about 26 percent satellite, about 8 percent a phone plan only and about 6 percent no subscription (U.S. Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024 5-year, table B28002, rounded). Douglas County is 81.3 percent wired and 8.6 percent satellite, so East Valley is well below the county on wires and about three times above it on satellite. The numbers are survey estimates with wide margins.

Median household income is about $125,000, about 43 percent of residents are 65 or over and about 18 percent of workers work from home (ACS 2020-2024).

What else reports service here?

The FCC's June 2021 Form 477 filing for Douglas County lists Charter on cable, Frontier on copper, fixed wireless companies and satellite providers. Nevada's BEAD data lists Hot Spot Broadband for an East Valley project of 158 locations using licensed fixed wireless, with an estimated end of July 31, 2028. It is provisional and subject to change, and High Desert is not a subgrantee. For a current report by address, use broadbandmap.fcc.gov.

What would a move off satellite look like?

The satellite switchers page and the step-by-step guide walk through it: check the path first, keep the old service until the new one works, return rented equipment. Bronze is $50 a month with up to 500 Mbps down, Silver $75 with up to 800 and Gold $99 with up to 1 Gig, each with up to 200 Mbps up and no contracts (hdiss.net, read 10/15/26).

What happens after you send an address?

Send the address or call 775-575-9593. A person looks at the tower path and calls you back; a technician confirms it in person.

What do house age, income and home offices look like in East Valley?

Census figures for East Valley put the median household income at about $125,000 (Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024 5-year, tables B19013, B25034, B08301, B28004 and B28005, pulled October 16, 2026). Homes built in 2010 or later are about 10 percent of the housing here, and homes from before 1990 are about 26 percent (Nevada: 15.3 percent newer, 36 percent older). Working from home: about 18 percent of workers in East Valley, 11.9 percent for Nevada, the households that notice upload speed first. For residents 65 and older, about 88 percent live with a broadband subscription at home (table B28005; Nevada 88.1 percent). The East Valley figures are survey estimates for a small place, so they are rounded and carry wide margins.

Every speed is an up-to figure. What you see depends on the path from the tower to your roof, how many people are online and your Wi-Fi router. Each plan has a data transfer limit; ask us for yours at info@hdiss.net.

Ask about 1 Gig / 1 Gig.

Our ultra-low-latency service with upload as fast as download, in some areas. Check your address and tick "Ask about 1 Gig / 1 Gig" and we will tell you if your address can get it. About the 1 Gig / 1 Gig service.

Prices and speeds as published by High Desert Internet Services (hdiss.net, read 10/15/26). "Runs" lines use the FCC Household Broadband Guide and Broadband Speed Guide (fcc.gov), which the FCC calls rough guidelines; every High Desert plan is above the FCC's highest household band of more than 25 Mbps. Not sure which plan? Use the plan picker.

We do not list East Valley by name in our Google service area; it sits inside Douglas County, which we work in. The address check tells you for certain.
