Internet in Verdi, NV: what reaches you and how to check your address

Verdi has one of the larger satellite shares among the Washoe places, about 24 percent of households, next to about 77 percent that report a cable, fiber or DSL type subscription (U.S. Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024 5-year, table B28002). High Desert Internet Services sends fixed wireless from a tower to a roof antenna, and each address is checked.

U.S. Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024 5-year, table B28002 (internet subscriptions), retrieved 2026-10-02. Households can report more than one type, so the shares do not add to 100. The ACS has no fixed-wireless line: those homes are counted under cable, fiber or DSL, or under other service. The thin mark on each bar is Nevada.

Terrain and line of sight in Verdi

The Truckee runs through a narrow stretch here, with the Sierra front climbing to the west and the river bottom and Interstate 80 threading the floor. Steep walls that frame the view can also hide a tower. A roof low in the canyon may have no line to a tower at all, while one on the bench above may have a long, clear view.

Trees along a river bottom can stand tall, and trees are the plainest obstacle a radio link meets. The check looks at the exact roof and what grows between it and the tower. When nothing works, you are told, not left waiting.

Verdi is a small community of about 1,000 people on the Truckee River, a few minutes from the California line and about 16 minutes by road west of downtown Reno, at roughly 4,873 feet. The town has about 530 households, and its Census figures carry wide margins of error, so this page says "about" and does not rank it against other small places.

At a glance

  • Verdi, about 530 households: about 77 percent wired, about 24 percent satellite (about 126 households), about 7 percent none (U.S. Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024 5-year, table B28002).
  • About 13 percent of workers work from home, above the county's 12.6 percent.
  • ZIP 89439 counts 80 business establishments with about 1,100 employees (ZIP Code Business Patterns 2023).

Why do so many Verdi homes use satellite?

The Census reports the number and not the reason. About 126 of about 527 households report a satellite subscription, about 81 percent report a cellular data plan and about 7 percent report no internet (U.S. Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024 5-year, table B28002). Households can report more than one type.

Anyone choosing between a dish and a tower should compare how each reaches the house. Our fixed wireless versus satellite guide lays out the difference without taking sides.

What else is reported near Verdi?

The FCC's June 2021 Form 477 filing lists several kinds of provider with some service in Washoe County, including cable, DSL, satellite and fixed wireless; the table lower on this page is that dated snapshot. The current National Broadband Map at broadbandmap.fcc.gov shows what is reported at an address today. Starlink, T-Mobile and Verizon publish address checks on their own sites (read 10/15/26), and Rango names Reno-area ZIPs on its Reno Metro page. Verdi's own ZIP is 89439, and the ZIP page has its numbers.

Who lives in Verdi and what do they need?

The median household income is about $81,000, about 89 percent of homes are owner-occupied and about 27 percent of residents are 65 or older. About 61 people work from home. Upload matters to that group: every High Desert plan publishes up to 200 Mbps up (hdiss.net, read 10/15/26).

What would High Desert cost in Verdi?

If a tower can see the roof, Bronze is $50 a month at up to 500 Mbps down, Silver is $75 at up to 800 Mbps and Gold is $99 at up to 1 Gig, with no contracts. The plans page compares the three. Weather questions come up in the canyon, so the weather and a wireless link guide is worth a read.

What happens after I send the address?

A person at the office, open 9 to 5 every day, looks at the line from the nearest tower to your roof and calls you back with what they see. A technician confirms the antenna spot at the house if the path looks clear.

Who lives in Verdi: income, house age and home offices

The median household income in Verdi is about $81,000 (Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024 5-year, tables B19013, B25034, B08301, B28004 and B28005, pulled October 16, 2026). Of its housing, about 3 percent was built in 2010 or later and about 69 percent before 1990, against 15.3 percent and 36 percent for Nevada. In Verdi an older house can matter as much inside as outside: thick walls and a router in a corner often decide the Wi-Fi more than the line does. About 13 percent of workers 16 and over work from home, against 11.9 percent statewide, and a home office leans on upload for video calls and backups. The Verdi figures are survey estimates for a small place, so they are rounded and carry wide margins.

Every speed is an up-to figure. What you see depends on the path from the tower to your roof, how many people are online and your Wi-Fi router. Each plan has a data transfer limit; ask us for yours at info@hdiss.net.

Ask about 1 Gig / 1 Gig.

Our ultra-low-latency service with upload as fast as download, in some areas. Check your address and tick "Ask about 1 Gig / 1 Gig" and we will tell you if your address can get it. About the 1 Gig / 1 Gig service.

Prices and speeds as published by High Desert Internet Services (hdiss.net, read 10/15/26). "Runs" lines use the FCC Household Broadband Guide and Broadband Speed Guide (fcc.gov), which the FCC calls rough guidelines; every High Desert plan is above the FCC's highest household band of more than 25 Mbps. Questions from Verdi

Still have a question? Call 775-575-9593, 9 to 5 every day.

Is there internet in Verdi, NV besides satellite?

Yes, but it varies by house. Cable or DSL, cellular home internet and fixed wireless are all possibilities, and each has its own address check.

Does the canyon block fixed wireless?

It can. Walls of rock and tall trees stop the line between a roof and a tower. That is why the check is done at the roof.

Is Verdi in your service area?

Verdi is named in our Google service area. Service is still decided by address.
