These two versions are bought once rather than by subscription. Microsoft's help page lists them together with the other classic versions and gives one set of clicks for all of them, so your screens should match the steps below.
Steps
- Check the year under File, Office Account
Open Outlook, select File, then Office Account. The product information lists 2021 or 2024 for a one-time purchase. If you see Microsoft 365 Apps instead, use the Microsoft 365 article.
- Start the account wizard
Select File, then Add Account. A fresh copy that has never been opened shows the same box on its welcome screen.
- Enter the address and turn on manual setup
Type the full address. Open Advanced options, tick Let me set up my account manually, and select Connect.
- Pick POP
Outlook asks for the account type. Choose POP. IMAP and Exchange will not work with High Desert Internet mail.
- Fill in the server boxes
Incoming: pop.hdiss.net. Outgoing: smtp.hdiss.net. User name: the full email address. We do not print ports or encryption settings here. If the screen asks for them, stop and call 775-575-9593 for the exact values.
- Open More Settings before you finish
Microsoft's POP and IMAP page says to turn on authentication for the outgoing server under More Settings. It is the setting most often missed.
- Set the password and send a test
Select Next, type the password, select Connect, and send a message to yourself. Open webmail afterward to see whether a copy is still on the server.
Why does Outlook 2021 have its own article?
Microsoft's page lists 2016, 2019, 2021, 2024 and Microsoft 365 as applying to the same steps, but a person looking at a screen wants the year they own. Writing the version down saves a wrong turn later. If you are unsure which you own, the sorting page Outlook setup for High Desert Internet email explains how to tell.
Is Outlook 2021 still supported by Microsoft?
The end-of-support notice this site read covers Office 2016 and 2019. It does not say that about 2021 or 2024, and this page makes no claim about their dates. Check Microsoft's lifecycle page for the date on your copy. Older copies have their own article, Outlook 2016 and 2019.
What if File shows no Add Account button?
A copy managed by an employer or school may block personal accounts, and only that organization can change the block. A home copy should show the button. If it does not, call 775-575-9593 and describe the screen.
Do I need to go outside or touch the antenna for this?
Stay on the ground for all of this. The outdoor radio and its cable are not yours to handle, and a call to 775-575-9593 brings a technician if the problem is up there.
