Many Galaxy phones come with a Samsung Email app that handles POP3, which the Gmail app does not. The steps below come from carrier and provider guides that describe the same screens. Menu names can differ a little by phone and by app version.
Steps
- Open the Samsung Email app
It may sit in a folder called Samsung on the home screen. Tap it. If you already have an account, open the three-line menu, then Settings, then Add account.
- Enter your full address and password
Type name@yourdomain.com and your email password.
- Tap Manual setup
Do not tap Sign in yet. Manual setup opens a list of account types.
- Choose POP3 account
Guides show it as Personal (POP3) or POP3 account. Do not choose IMAP or Exchange.
- Fill in the server details
Incoming server pop.hdiss.net, outgoing server smtp.hdiss.net, user name your full address. Those two settings stay off the public pages. Phone 775-575-9593 and a person will give you what your account needs.
- Look at the delete-from-server option
The POP3 setup offers a choice about removing mail from the server. If you want a copy to stay for webmail, pick the choice that never deletes, or the one that deletes only when you delete from the inbox.
- Tap Sign in and test
Send yourself a message and check that it arrives.
Why use the Samsung app instead of Gmail?
Google's help page for the Gmail app documents manual setup for IMAP only, so a POP3 mailbox like hdiss.net may not be accepted there. Samsung Email lists POP3 as a choice in the guides we found. The Android Gmail article, Gmail on Android, explains what Google says.
The POP3 option disappeared.
A Samsung community thread reports that the POP3 choice sometimes vanishes from the list and returns after the existing account is removed and added again as personal POP3. That is a user report, not a Samsung statement. If you see the same, remove the half-added account first, then try again.
What if the phone is off Wi-Fi?
The app can fetch over cellular data as well. At home on Wi-Fi it uses the High Desert line. Phone data use is your phone plan's concern.
Do I need to go outside or touch the antenna for this?
Stay on the ground for all of this. The outdoor radio and its cable are not yours to handle, and a call to 775-575-9593 brings a technician if the problem is up there.
