Is Rango offered in Washoe County? What the records show

Preferred Networks, Inc. (now powered by Rango) told the FCC in June 2021 it could serve at least one location in 56 census blocks in Washoe County by terrestrial fixed wireless, its largest of 2 technology rows, not a statement about any address. Your address is the real test: try the FCC National Broadband Map, Rango or High Desert.

Everything on this Rango page carries a date. The FCC filing is from June 2021, Rango's site was read on October 15, 2026, and the Census figures are from the 2020-2024 estimates, all for Washoe County.

What does the FCC data say about Rango in Washoe County?

Look up Washoe County in the June 2021 Form 477 data and Preferred Networks, Inc. (which rango.net says is now powered by Rango) appears with terrestrial fixed wireless in 56 census blocks, reporting maximums of up to 25 Mbps down and up to 5 Mbps up. The extract adds fiber to the premises in 4 census blocks (reported maximums of up to 25 Mbps down and up to 5 Mbps up). Counting every row in the extract for Washoe County, 13 of the 26 report more census blocks than Rango's largest row and 11 report fewer.

A census block is the smallest unit on the Census Bureau's map, and Washoe County has about 199,296 households (ACS 2020-2024 5-year, table B28002), so a block count shows where a Rango filing touched the map and not how many homes it reached.

Preferred Networks, Inc. filed those Washoe County rows. Rango's own pages, read October 15, 2026, say Preferred Networks in Fallon and in Reno is now powered by Rango, so this Washoe County page treats the 2021 rows as those of Rango's predecessor and not as a Rango filing.

Form 477 was a company-to-FCC report, Rango's included, and the June 2021 release was the last of its kind. Nothing in it confirms that Rango serves a house in Washoe County now, and no filing can. The FCC National Broadband Map replaced it, and a guide to challenging the map explains what to do when it is wrong about a Washoe County home.

What does current FCC data (December 31, 2025) show for Rango in Washoe County?

As of the December 31, 2025 Broadband Data Collection (FCC files read October 16, 2026), no row under the name Rango appears for Washoe County in the Nevada files. The FCC lists each provider under the name it files with, and Rango could file under a parent or legal name, so the absence of the brand name in Washoe County settles nothing; ask Rango which name it reports under.

Across every filer in Washoe County, Rango among them, at least one company reported a fixed wireless tier of 100/20 or better at 154,174 of the 161,538 locations on the map, and a cable, fiber or DSL tier at that level at 158,376. At 2,860 locations, in the same files that list Rango, a fixed wireless filing was the only land-based 100/20 option listed; separately, 170 had no land-based filing at 25/3 or better, leaving satellite as the only reported option. For Washoe County the FCC counts broadband serviceable locations, which are buildings, not households or customers, and each row, Rango's included, is the provider's own report. The files list Rango but say nothing about High Desert's own towers, and a Washoe County address is checked one roof at a time.

What is the picture in Washoe County beyond the filings?

Housing in Washoe County, the background to read Rango against: 5.1% of housing units are mobile homes, against 5.2% for Nevada, 59.9% of homes are owner-occupied and the median home was built in 1991 (ACS 2020-2024 5-year, tables B25024, B25003 and B25035). Those Washoe County figures say nothing about any one road, which is why this Rango page sends you to an address check.

Work and age in Washoe County, which frames any Rango decision: 12.6% of workers work from home, against 11.9% for Nevada, 17.7% of residents are 65 or older, against 17%, and the mean commute is 22.5 minutes (ACS 2020-2024 5-year, tables B08301, B01001 and B08303). People in Washoe County who work from home lean on upload speed, and every High Desert plan is listed at up to 200 Mbps up, a figure to set beside what Rango publishes.

How would High Desert and Rango compare for a Washoe County home?

The comparison for Washoe County starts with how the signal travels. High Desert uses a tower and an antenna on your roof, lists Washoe County among its six counties, and settles every address by looking at the path. For prices, read the plan cards below rather than this paragraph: three published plans, no contracts in the company's words, the same cards a Washoe County reader sees on every Rango page here.

The company-level table is on High Desert vs Rango; the technology comparison is fixed wireless vs cable.

  • If Rango fits a Washoe County home: Your address falls in a Rango region and you want a month-to-month fixed wireless plan with an ACH discount and a first-three-months offer.
  • If Rango fits a Washoe County home: You want a Rango Gold plan, which Rango words as up to 1 Gbps down and up to 200 Mbps up.
  • If High Desert fits a Washoe County home: You want a company that has been in Northern Nevada since August 2002 and answers its phone 9 to 5 every day.
  • If High Desert fits a Washoe County home: A tower from one company sees your roof and one from the other does not, which only an address check on each can show.

What does Rango's site say, read on October 15, 2026?

Rango lists the phone numbers 775-847-4000 and 775-625-1552 and says outage updates appear on its Facebook page, noted here for readers in Washoe County. Rango's Internet Plans page, read October 15, 2026, lists Copper at $70 a month for up to 100 Mbps, Silver at $80 for up to 500 Mbps and Gold at $95 for up to 1 Gbps, with starred conditions beside each price, worth holding against any Washoe County quote.

Rango's starred conditions say advertised pricing is based on a $10 a month discount for automatic ACH payments and a $5 a month discount for automatic credit card payments, and nothing on it is specific to Washoe County unless stated.

Rango's pages name Reno, Sparks, New Washoe City, McCarran and Wadsworth, and a Reno Metro region page lists Reno and Sparks ZIP codes. So the place to settle Rango in Washoe County is an address, not a county.

How do I find out for my own Washoe County address?

Three checks settle a Washoe County address. First, Rango's own tool: the ZIP or city search on the rango.net home page. Second, the FCC National Broadband Map, which shows what providers report at that Washoe County address today. Third, the High Desert address check for the Washoe County address, or a call to 775-575-9593.

What does High Desert do with my address?

The next step with High Desert for a Washoe County home is an address. A person looks at the tower path to your Washoe County roof, then calls you back with a plain answer, yes, no or needs a closer look, which is a different kind of answer from Rango's checker.
