Can I keep my old email address when I switch to you?

It depends on your old provider, and many addresses from a cable, phone or satellite company end when the account does. High Desert gives its own customers an address, but it cannot carry over one from another company.

Email is the thing people forget about when they switch, and then lose years of messages. Treat it as its own task, done before you cancel.

What decides whether it survives?

The company that owns the domain after the "@" decides. An address ending in a provider's own name belongs to that provider, and its terms say how long it lasts after cancellation. Some give a short grace period, some give none. Ask your old provider in writing, and do it before you cancel.

An address on a domain you own, or a free webmail address, does not depend on your internet provider at all.

What do I do about it?

Get a new address from a source that will not change when you switch, such as a free webmail account or one on your own domain. Then update the people and accounts that use the old one. Copy the old mail and contacts to your computer. The guides on keeping email when you change devices, backing up your email and email on your own domain cover each.

The order in the switching checklist puts email before you cancel the old service.

What does High Desert offer?

The service agreement limits email to High Desert customers (Section 4.B), and the address stays with the service, not with you (Section 7.A). It is a good way to have a mailbox as a customer, with webmail and settings on the customer email page. It is not a place to keep an address you need for life; for that, use a domain of your own.

How many addresses an account has is not published. Ask when the office calls back about your address check.

Can we reach your roof?

Send the address. A person looks at the path from our nearest tower and calls you back: clear, not clear, or we need to look at it from your roof.

Plan you are thinking about
One of your roof looking toward the ridge, and one of any old dish or antenna, helps us check the path. Phone photos are fine.

By sending this you agree that we may call or email you about this address. A technician never comes out until you say yes.
