Switching providers is easier when you do it in the right order. These answers cover both directions, using the service agreement for the rules that apply to High Desert and pointing to other companies' own sites for theirs.
How do I switch from Spectrum, AT&T or Starlink to High Desert?
First check that your address has a clear path to a tower, then schedule the install and keep your old service until the new one works. The switch page lists every step and the guides cover cable and satellite.
Should I cancel my old service before the install?
No. Read the answer on timing.
Do you buy out contracts or match prices?
The company says it beats or matches any competitor; see the price match answer.
How do I cancel High Desert?
Give two weeks notice and arrange to return the equipment. The agreement says monthly billing stops once the equipment is recovered and a final bill is issued. The notice form is not specified, so confirm it by email and keep a copy. See how to cancel and return equipment.
Is there a cancellation fee?
The company says it has no contracts, and the agreement lists no cancellation fee. Read the cancellation fee answer.
Can I pause service for the winter or while I travel?
A pause is not described in the agreement or on the plan cards, so ask the office before you assume one. The article on pausing or cancelling service says what to ask.
I am moving within the area. Can I take my service?
The new address is checked again for a clear path, because service belongs to the path, not the person. See moving or transferring service and moving house.
What do I do with my Starlink dish or cable modem after switching?
Follow the return or keep rules of the company that supplied it, which are on its own site and may change. High Desert does not take another company's equipment. The guide on returning old provider equipment has the steps.
Can I keep my old email address when I switch to you?
Whether you keep it is your old provider's rule. Read the old email address answer.
How much notice do I need to give?
Two weeks, under the service agreement, with all equipment recovered before billing stops. Equipment is to be returned undamaged within five calendar days, under the agreement's equipment terms.
What if my current provider charges me to leave?
Check its own terms for an early-termination fee before you cancel. Those terms are on its site and may differ by plan, and High Desert cannot read them for you. If the cost matters, ask the office. Its published line is that it beats or matches any competitor, and what that means in your case is a question only the office can answer, so get the answer in writing.
What if the address check says no?
Then you stay with your current provider and we say so. Other options, with their published terms and the date read, are on the comparison pages.
What is a sensible order for switching?
One, send your address and get the path checked. Two, ask about the plan, the data transfer limit and what you will pay on install day. Three, book the install and keep the old service. Four, once the new connection works for a few days, give your old provider its notice and ask what to return. Five, update any bills, alarms or devices that were tied to the old connection, such as a home alarm that uses the internet. Each step is short, and the order is what keeps you online.
If you are leaving a provider with a contract, read its own terms for an early-termination fee before you cancel. Those terms are published on its site and we do not summarize them here. High Desert's published position is that it has no contracts, and its agreement sets the notice and equipment rules above.
Moving mail is the part people forget. Tell your contacts your new address before you shut the old one, forward what you can for a few months, and download or export old mail first. Your old provider's rules decide how long an address lives after you leave, and ours decide that the High Desert address is for customers only.

High Desert Internet says it will "beat or match any competitor", which is the company's own wording in its posts. Nothing is published about how that works or about buying out another provider's cont
Read moreIs there a cancellation fee?
The service agreement lists no cancellation fee, and the company states that it has no contracts. To end service you give two weeks notice and return the company's equipment, and then a final bill is sent.

It depends on your old provider, and many addresses from a cable, phone or satellite company end when the account does. High Desert gives its own customers an address, but it cannot carry over one from another company.

Can we reach your roof?
Send the address. A person looks at the path from our nearest tower and calls you back: clear, not clear, or we need to look at it from your roof.
