Move or transfer service

Service is tied to a place with a clear path to a tower, so a move means the new address is checked again. The outdoor equipment belongs to High Desert Internet and is not yours to take down. Call 775-575-9593 before the move date and a person will go through what happens at both addresses.

People often hope the connection moves with the moving truck. With a wired provider the line stays in the wall, and with a wireless one the antenna is part of the old house's setup. Here is what we can say, and what a call settles.

Steps

  1. Call before you pack the router

Phone 775-575-9593 or 775-391-5660 as soon as you know the move date and the new address.

  2. Give the new address

The address check is by street address. We do not promise service at any address in advance; the new place needs a clear path from a tower.

  3. Ask about the old address

Say when service should end at the old place. The agreement asks for two weeks notice and the return of equipment before monthly billing stops.

  4. Leave the outdoor equipment alone

Do not take down the antenna, radio or cable. They are the company's equipment. Never climb up to remove them.

  5. Return what is yours to return

Ask what to return and how, then follow return equipment.

  6. Plan for the new install

A new address is a new installation. The first-invoice items are in what you pay on day one.

  7. Keep your email address

Ask whether your hdiss.net email address stays with you. We do not publish that.

Can I move my service to a new address?

Possibly, if the new address passes the check. We do not decide that from a map, a ZIP code or a town name. A fixed wireless link needs a clear path between a tower and the roof or pole where the antenna sits, and trees, hills and buildings can block it. A person looks at the new address and calls back. You can also send the address through check my address.

Do I take the antenna with me?

No. The service agreement says the antenna, radio, power supply and injector remain the property of High Desert Internet Services. Failed supplied equipment is repaired or replaced by the company. Your Wi-Fi router is a different matter; it is yours, and you can bring it. The guide on moving house, service and equipment covers the whole list.

What if the new home cannot get service?

Then we say so after the check, and the guide on every type of rural internet in Northern Nevada lists other kinds to look at. We would rather tell you than promise something that will not work.

Is there a fee to move?

We have not published a moving fee or a transfer fee. The agreement lists a labor charge and prorated monthly charge at installation. Ask for the amounts when you call.

What if I am selling the house?

The buyer is a new customer at that address. They would sign up on their own, and the old account would end under the agreement's notice and equipment terms. Tell the office about the sale date so the antenna and radio can be recovered or handed over as the company decides. Do not promise the buyer service; they need to ask.

What should I do about my email and my website?

Your hdiss.net email is part of your service. Ask whether the address continues if you change addresses, and keep a copy of your mail in the meantime. If the move leaves you without service for a time, use webmail from any internet connection to reach your inbox. Do not wait until the last day to ask.

What can I do before moving day?

Write down your Wi-Fi name and password and photograph your router's label, so the setup at the new house takes minutes. Pack the router and its power plug yourself; do not pack the injector until you are told what to do with it. Confirm the new address with the office early, since the answer shapes your plans.

Can I schedule service at the new place before I move?

Call early and ask. Whether the new address can be checked before you own or rent it, and how soon an installation can happen, are not published. Do not sign a lease or buy a house on the strength of a ZIP code or a town name; availability is by address.
