Wyze cameras on your High Desert connection

Wyze's troubleshooting page says it needs 1 to 2 Mbps of upload for SD video and needs 4 to 7 Mbps for HD, while its Pan v2 and v3 spec pages list lower figures. Wyze says most of its cameras join only 2.4 GHz networks. The pages differ, so plan with the higher numbers.

Wyze sells a range of cameras at different price points, and its pages do not agree on one number. That is useful to know before you plan around a figure. The one thing every page agrees on is the band.

Steps

  1. Check the band first

Wyze says most Wyze Cams support only 2.4 GHz and will not connect to 5 GHz. It names a few exceptions in newer models. Split the router's bands if needed; see the band-split article.

  2. Find your model's figure

Wyze's Pan v2 and Pan v3 tech specs say each camera needs 1.0 Mbps for SD and 1.5 for HD. Its broader troubleshooting list gives 1 to 2 for SD and 4 to 7 for HD.

  3. Plan with the higher figures

Where pages differ, plan with the larger number so that cameras do not run short.

  4. Add up the cameras that can run together

A yard with four cameras at HD can reach well over 16 Mbps in the high estimate.

  5. Compare with your own upload test

See how to run a speed test.

  6. Check security type and signal

Wyze's Pan v3 spec lists WPA and WPA2. Poor signal looks like poor bandwidth.

  7. Reduce resolution if needed

SD uses far less than HD. A camera on a quiet side of the house can run at SD.

Does Wyze record locally?

Some Wyze cameras take a memory card. This page names no model and no card size; check the product page for yours. Cameras use data, and each High Desert service level has a data transfer limit. The size is available by emailing info@hdiss.net, and use over it is $1 per gigabyte in a billing cycle, according to the service agreement.

What if the camera shows offline?

Wyze has an article for that, titled My camera is offline in the Wyze app. First check the router and the signal, then the band. The checklist in the five checks tells you if the house is offline.

Is a mesh system fine for Wyze?

It can be, if the camera can see a 2.4 GHz name. Some mesh apps can split bands and some cannot; see the router articles.

Do I need to go outside or touch the antenna for this?

Nothing on this page needs you to go outside. Never climb to the antenna or touch the outdoor radio or its cable; call and a technician comes to the house.
