Linksys's support article for Velop setup with temporary Wi-Fi covers the WHW01, MX and MR series. The parent node is the unit wired to your internet line; child nodes spread Wi-Fi. This page follows that article and swaps the modem for the High Desert injector cable.
Steps
- Gather everything in one room
Linksys says to bring all nodes, their adapters and one Ethernet cable to the room where the internet line enters. Remove any old router.
- Read the label on the parent node
The default Wi-Fi name and password are on the bottom. The password is case sensitive.
- Connect the injector cable to the Internet port
Linksys says to connect the modem to the Internet port of the parent node. You have no modem, so use the cable from the High Desert power injector. On the WHW01 either port works and the one you use becomes the Internet port.
- Power on any child nodes nearby
Linksys says to place them within ten feet of the parent and leave them unplugged from any cable.
- Join the parent node's Wi-Fi and open the Linksys app
Start a new network setup and confirm the parent node is connected.
- Wait for the solid purple light
Linksys says to wait until all nodes show solid purple before continuing. Keep your phone close.
- Let the app check the internet
If the check fails, Linksys says to follow the modem restart prompts, or enter PPPoE or static settings if your provider needs them. High Desert does not publish either; restart the injector and call 775-575-9593.
- Name the Wi-Fi and finish
Then move the child nodes to their rooms. Linksys says they are ready when they show solid blue.
What if Bluetooth setup fails?
Linksys's article is itself the fallback: it uses temporary Wi-Fi from the parent node when Bluetooth setup does not work. A separate Linksys page describes a browser route at myrouter.local for the parent node.
Can I add a child node later?
Yes. Linksys says to use the app's menu and choose Set Up a New Product. Velop Cognitive Mesh units cannot be child nodes of an Intelligent Mesh system, per the article.
My router is a plain Linksys, not Velop.
The cable goes the same place, the Internet port. Setup then follows the app or the browser. Setting up a new router covers the general order.
Do I need to go outside or touch the antenna for this?
Work from inside the house only. If the trouble seems to be at the antenna, leave the radio and its cable alone and call; a technician will come.
