TP-Link's support page for the Tether app gives ten steps. They are the same on most Archer models, with small differences in the screens. We do not publish a connection type, so step six below says what to choose and what to do if it does not work.
Steps
- Connect the injector cable to the WAN port
TP-Link says to connect an Ethernet cable from the modem or wall jack to the router's WAN port. For you, that cable comes from the High Desert power injector. Your High Desert service arrives on the Ethernet cable that leaves the indoor power injector; it plugs into the router's internet (WAN) port.
- Join the router's default Wi-Fi
The network name and password are on the label on the bottom of the router.
- Open the Tether app and select your router
TP-Link's page says to choose the router from the device list.
- Create a login password for the router
This is the password for the router's settings, separate from the Wi-Fi password.
- Pick the connection type
TP-Link lists Dynamic IP, PPPoE and Static IP, and a VLAN ID if the provider needs one. High Desert does not publish a PPPoE login, a static address or a VLAN for plans. Choose Dynamic IP, tap Next, and call us if the test fails.
- Keep the MAC address option on the default
TP-Link recommends the default, Do not Change MAC address, if you are unsure.
- Name your 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks
You may skip this and do it later. If a smart camera will join, read splitting 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz first.
- Confirm and wait for the test
The app tests the connection and reports problems. If the test says no internet, restart the injector and router in order, then call.
What if the screens do not match?
TP-Link's page warns that the steps cover the Classic interface and points to a separate guide for the new interface. If the screens look different, open the Tether app's help for your model number, or call 775-575-9593 and describe the screen.
Do I need a TP-Link ID?
Some TP-Link guides add a step to sign in with a TP-Link ID. The page we read does not require one for the steps above.
What if the app wants a VLAN?
Leave VLAN and IPTV off. We do not publish a VLAN for home plans. If a technician told you to use one, follow that instead.
Do I need to go outside or touch the antenna for this?
Stay on the ground for all of this. The outdoor radio and its cable are not yours to handle, and a call to 775-575-9593 brings a technician if the problem is up there.
